Pimpama Shed Breathes New Life into Sailboat

In mid 2024, Pimpama Men’s Shed was gifted a sailboat named "Hibberty Hop Too" from a deceased estate. The boat, a Scruffie Marine Shimmey 12, had been built from a kit by its original owner, a lady with the surname Hibberty. While the boat was in good condition, it required some tender loving care to bring it back to its best.

Due to its size, the boat couldn’t be stored at the Men’s Shed, so the President generously offered to house it temporarily in his front yard. Several members sprang into action, stripping off the old paint and giving the boat a fresh coat. The sails were carefully cleaned, and the electric motor that came with the boat was serviced.

By the end of the year the restoration was complete, and the boat was ready for testing. Just in time as the President was ready to reclaim his lawn! The team took the boat for a successful test sail at the Daniel Leeming Reserve.

The restoration was a great success, with the boat since being sold, injecting some extra funds back into the Shed. The project brought the Shed members together for fun and a rewarding community project.
